K341 overheating

Thru a couple of searches, it seems like overheating is an issue for many. Has anyone seen it so much that the exhaust elbows from the head to the canister start to glow? There seems to be plenty of air flow in that area between the air filter / carb & the end of the muffler, but it seems to be really hot as well. There doesn't appear to be any blockage for anything because there is tons of hot exhaust coming out of the pipe as well. Also, I checked the plug gap, which was correct, but there was way too much carbon on the tip. Is the fuel mixture too rich?
