Transmission Key?

My 212 is having the transmission redone. The guy called me tonight and said that there is a key that prevents shifting from 1st to 2nd, or etc, without first going into neutral. He said that this is a safety mechanism. He told me that the key is cracked and that the part is no longer available. Does anyone know what this key or part is? And, does anyone know where to get a replace or have one lying around? I am new to this and I'm not real good with transmission!!!

Key? There is a neutral shaftey switch, I don't know of an internal part other than there is a shaft with a knub on it, which engages the switch.

I have several parts transmissions, so I'd say there's a 1 in 3 chance that I may have it if you can id the part. Post a photo or find it in a parts diagram.

I dont think I can get a picture as I'm no where near where the guy lives and he doesnt seem to be very technically advanced :) other than with tractors. The guy said that it is a "safety switch" that prevents you from changing between gears to require the transmission to move into neutral first, and that mine is cracked. He was saying that it has 2 slots in it - idk hes a confusing guy lol. Reed, does this sound like something you know.

I haven't had a transmission apart latley so I can't claim familiararity with all of the internal parts and certainly none as you describe save the neutral saftey switch. Best to have your rebuilder id the part from Maynard's parts breakdown diagram.

It fits onto the # 62 bracket, though the switch itself is not listed and will be shown with the electrical group instead. Do you have a parts manual for your tractor? I believe its part # 122233 which supercedes to 2122233SM which is around $18 at Jacks. Don't order anything until you can get a visual on what you actually need.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
