Muffler inlet and outlet---Nelson Muffler

Recommended Posts

LesH
I bought a bunch of Nelson brand mufflers at an auction. One end has a 90 degree bend and the other end is straight. Neither end is marked as "inlet". What are the typical rules on the mufflers as far as inlet and outlet connections?? Does it matter/ noise difference/ will it hurt the motor if installed backwards?? Thanks.

Here is a Nelson book, now owned by Cummins Engine, Fleet Gard Parts, showing quite a few sizes and dimensions. Generally the slotted end is the inlet. http://www.cumminsfiltration.com/pdfs/product_lit/americas_brochures/LT32002.pdf
