KT17 problems

Recommended Posts

Tom45
The KT17 in my 7117 died while mowing but started after a minute. After that it would sometimes only run on one cylinder. I have jumped full voltage to the + on the coil, replaced the points, plugs, condensor, plug wires and coil but no improvement and it sometimes backfires at idle. It has battery ignition so a sheared flywheel key would not be expected to be the problem. The manifold gaskets do not appear to be leaking. The engine is starting to get tired with 70 psi and 80 psi of compression and a blow coming from the breather hose. Any ideas on its problem? What are experiences with the replacement Kohler from Al and the replacement Briggs vangard from Small Engine Warehouse? Thanks, Tom

If you repower with the Vangaurd this guy here can tell you anything you need to know. He put a 16hp Vangaurd in our John Deere 210 in 1995 and its been flawless http://www.jimsrepairjimstractors.com/Engines.htm
