Transaxle drips

When I replaced the axle tube in one machine, I scraped off the old gasket between the transaxle halves and put in a new gasket. I cannot get this thing to stop dripping...only a few drips a day, but it shouldn't drip at all. I am tightening all I dare using a regular socket wrench by hand)... how tight do I need to go to get it to stop? I don't want to damage the threads or snap a bolt off.

O_M_G, I haven't been there or done that, but it seems that every time I've been tempted to overtighten a gasket flange of any sort, it's been a leaker for sure. If I were in your shoes, I would figure that I either gouged up the surface when cleaning the gasket flanges, I missed a bit of the old gasket, I distorted the flange when tightening, I over-tightened it or more than likely: ALL OF THE ABOVE! ArghhXX(

There is a brush-on permatex, brown in color, I can't remember what they call it but will check. When installing new oilpan or breather gaskets I put a light coat on each side of the gasket, its not enough to mess up any clearances but does reduce chances of continued leaks.

Karma...yeah. Silly me. Maybe what I'll do is first pull one of the bolts to make sure I'm not getting close to stripping it out... then loosen all of the bolts and retighten in a circular pattern. Maybe it's too tight on the one end leading to unevenness.

Yup. Checked when I got home today, no drips just a very thin coating on the bottom. I can live with that, we'll let it alone and see how it goes.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
