23D rings

I have a 64' 2010 with a 23D in it but with a bad crank & Rod. I came across a 23DFB that is very close to the 23D that I'm going to put in it instead of trying to fix the crank. I had the 23DFB running on the bench but it smokes. I'm looking for rings for it, piston is stamped 030 so I'm assuming i need #292103 rings. Here is a good question for you guys, I know the bore is 3" in the 23D and bore .030 over, I have standard rings for a 10HP 3 1/16" bore. Would these rings work if i take a little of on the ends? I tried to fit them in the bore and it is very close to fitting. Thanks for a great web site, Rick

Briggs has stopped the production of some rings as in the .020; I needed a set of them, I ordered a set of .030 and cut them down to the .020 to fit. You need to be very careful and slow.:(
