Kohler K341S knocking under throttle

Recommended Posts

If I advance the throttle to quickly, or the engine suddenly loads down while mowing, I hear a knocking out of the engine. There's no rod knock or anything normally. I usually have fresh regular unleaded in the engine. Any ideas what I should be looking for?

I second that motion from Rod. I had one do the same thing this past summer and a new coil, points and condensor fixed her right up.

I like to check my ignition timing with a timing light. In the past I set my points @.020 gap and then check with the light and found it advanced too much. I find around .017-.018 gap is closer to the timing mark on the flywheel. Others may have differing opinions but that is what I find. I have 6 kohlers K's.:D

You can use a dwell meter, but the points cannot be adjusted while the engine is running, therefore you will need to figure out a point gap that matches the dwell you want.
