says its a wards? WHAT IS IT

From the looks of the blade mounting and front axle I'm saying it's a Gilson built Wards, about a 1977. Worth getting cheap if the 16hp briggs is decent. Hydro lift likely runs off the tranny, cyl is reuseable.

thats about a 1968 gilson wards. the hydro lift is worth good $ on ebay. same pump they used as a hydro lift option on the early 1960's wheel horse, cubs, bolens, and others. alot of other good parts on that tractor the wards guys would be after. and the 16hp briggs makes a good transplant for a simplicity. just need to ad a oil pan to it since the wards pans are built in the frame.
