12 volt Question

Recommended Posts

Bruker
I have a walk behind snow blower that has a 120 volt electric start and a 12 volt headlight. My questions is where does the headlight get the 12 volts from? Does is come from the 120v starter or is there a separate source somewhere within the engine shroud?

It is most likely set up with the 120V only running the starter. A magneto is used to fire the sparkplug, so external power is not needed to keep the engine running. There is probably a small alternator mounted under or beside the flywheel and is used only to drive the headlight, so it doesn't need to put out much power.

My walk behind blower also is a 120v starter and has 12v headlight and heated handle grips. Those grips are the cats meow. Really keep my hands warm. Dan

I would suspect the stator/magneto just has an extra winding that is used for powering the light and/or handgrips. Not unlike the charging system on my 716H tractor.
