hydro verses vari shift

i have a chance to pick up a hb112 but needs some work and i already have a simplicity 3112v with vari shift just looking for opinions on which drive would be best choice thanks

I have both variables and hydros, I agree with Mack, the gear drive is preferable for plowing, but for mowing and tilling, I prefer the hydro. The HB-112 uses a vickers hydro which has a tendency to leak, they can be repaired but it is costly and time consuming, try searching the archives for the "vickers pintle shaft" articles. I lucked out and got two with Vickers which don't leak and work great, if its in good shape and the price is right, I'd say go for it.
