Need 7012 headlight repair help

Recommended Posts

1978 7012. Neither light works. I have power to where the bulb sits in the holder. If I attach a ground to the reflector the bulb will light. Where does the ground come from for the lights to work?

You need to find the ground wire for the lights and trace through the harness to find the broken wire or the disconnected ground. Another way to fix the problem is to add an additional wire that is grounded to the engine or chassis and splice it into the harness ground wire near one of the lights. Once the lights are working, you can wrap the additional wire into the harness with electrical tape so that it looks factory.

If your tractor has 2 headlights inside the grill, like my 7016, than the mounting clips are the ground. There is only a hot wire leading to the plug and than it splits to each light. Loosen the nuts and wiggle the clips until they make better contact with the hood. When the lights come on tighten them up. It's grounded. I had the same problem this week with mine. Disregard this if it's a 4 light system as shown above. Chuck
