Introducing "Sad Sack"

We have named all of our tractors. Monday morning my grandson spotted a Simplicity on CL, so I called on it. Turns out the tractor was less than a 1/2 mile from my house, guess what it followed me home when I went to look at it. Name is Sad Sack, the pictures will tell the story.

I believe this is a 2210, there are no numbers to be found on it. Now for the interesting goodies that came along.

This is probably a hitch for a cub cadet, it has been welded to the rear hitch members on the Simplicity.

The best I can make out, the numbers on the label are B-64-1396?.

Note the interesting extension to mount the plow directly into the Simplicity rear lift. This plow may pre-date the Brinly sleeve hitch setup, I'm not sure. Next week the Grandson's have two days off from school, so we can get into seeing what it will take to get it running. It's always fun to bring these derelicts home and play with them! John U

How much did they pay you to haul that off....No just kidding, we all love the used and abused ones. That's just good clean fun, bringing back to life.

John, That is an interesting plow hook up. Great project. I also have a 2210 "brother". I got it from a fellow named Lester, so the tractor is named "Lester". P.O. said it did not run. A points and carb cleaning and it runs great. Smokes a little, but still has plenty of power. It looks a lot like the two above, but does a good job running my sickle mower.

Well old Sad Sack is a sorry case alright. The short version of the story is that after we got the engine running and made a lap around the driveway, oil started to stream out of the pan. Today we pulled the engine and found a cracked mounting ear which caused the leak. The bad news is that it was rust built up between the frame and the 1/2" plate W under the frame that heaved the center of the frame up and put enough pressure on the mounting ears to break one off. I say this because when we replaced the oil pan and set the engine back in, it rocked from side to side. Sure enough a straight edge showed the floor of the frame bowed up in the center. When we tried to remove the front end we ended up with the bolts that go into the large block X below the 1/2" plate W snapped off.

The engine ran pretty good, the BGB and transaxle seemed ok, now do we deal with the front end issues, or just salvage some parts and put old Sad Sack to rest? We don't really need another tractor, and we got a complete snow plow setup, chains, wheel weights, a Brinly hitch, and a 7" Brinly plow out of the deal. Not to mention two days of quality time working with my Grandson's. John U

Any ideas how to get the broken off bolts out of block X, or just drill through and use through bolts? The bolts AV in the diagram were also rusted to the point that the bracket just fell off, so those bolt ends are also embedded in X. John U
