Magna - Matic Ignition Question on B&S mod 19

I'm about to tackle a B&S mod 19 from a simplicity 725 I acquired a few years ago. I don't think it's run in over 10 years and it has been outside for the past 30 years by it's looks. The blower cover came off in pieces and I first thought the mice had done away with the armature coil - further investigation revealed a ‘Magna-Matic' Ignition System. It looks like a fairly complex system under the flywheel and, checking prices - parts for it are very expensive. Is there an easy way to test this ignition system - and - if there is a problem would the ‘automotive conversion' be a reasonable solution? Thanks, John(ri)

As long as she's got external points,,conversion to Kohler Batt.type sys. is possible. Some parts for that magna-matic are still avail I found out,,,BUT at an outrageous cost.As I need a Mag.Mat.coil for my 700 Sim,,but ain't about to shell out over 80 bucks for it!

I just did a 12v battery conversion on my 725, let me know if you decide to go this route. Ken Williams
