Another KT17 / Vanguard engine replacement questio

Recommended Posts

Tom45
The KT 17 in my 7117 has died and I have obtained a 18HP Vanguard (generator) engine to replace it. The engine came with an adapter for a drive shaft. I assume the alternatives are to use the entire drive shaft, rubber coupling and engine adapter with pilot bushing from the Kohler or to change to a Briggs drive shaft? My other challanges are to change the governor from a latching full on to a normal type, to make room for an oil filter, and to change the electrics to a ground to shut off type. Tom

Tom, Here is a guy http://www.jimsrepairjimstractors.com/Engines.htm who specializes in Vanguard repowers - maybe he can help you? I called him when I was considering a repower of a 317 JD (when I still owned it). He was a good person to visit with.
