My Big Ten update

RUMBLEFISH

Recommended Posts

Here are a few pics of how its stands right now with my Big Ten. The motor started right up after the hone new rings and carb rebuild kit was installed and I'm super happy.I also upgraded the front spindles with those roller bearings and beefed up that pivot point as well. I am hearing a tic tic like the valves are not right but no biggy. I still have plenty of time to take it apart again and check them out. I'm just glade that most of the sanding grinding painting and priming is done. On to the pics please give me some comments. This is my first ever project and I got hooked on these little beasts. I think Im gonna need some help on the valves sincs I find the tech book a little fuzzy. That could also be due to me rookieness aslo.:)

Very nice! This is the kind of thing that is inspiring for us other rookies. I am trying just to get my old Landlord back into running condition so I can use it and I think a guy does need two so he can do a restore and still have a running unit. Yours looks great and I hope one day to have mine looking as good. I am interseted in the comment about roller bearings and beefing up the the pivot point. Can you elaborate on that? Do you have pictures of the various stages of your project? Once again great job.. Bob R

Bob I will post a few before pics that I have. I have never taken a motor apart before or a garden tractor for that matter. This site has been a great help and it has people with years of knowledge and experience on these machines you just can't match. I was lucky in the sense that I had a complete tractor when I bought it. The only thing missing are the hood bolts and I refuse to pay what people are selling them on fleabay for. I took lots of pics during the process and asked lots of "dumb" question on this forum and that made it much easier.

I used zippo's vid "member"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4iN62Ztjm4&feature=channel that really helped me out along with the pivot repair as a guide. I just welded a piece of iron on both sides of the current angle iron and tapped a Zerk into it. I'm sure its not the best way but it solved the problem of the worn grooved angle iron and pivot point. Now its on new rest points that are greasable and larger and the price was right.;)

It looks like you're well under way to having a nicely restored tractor that you will be able to use and be proud of for years to come! Keep up the good work. Dan

Looks excellent great work.Love the engine painted same color. I had one of those front end pivot part break on me couple years ago. On my 3416S must be a weak point. Probably been posts on this but I miss alot. BOB

I am using Rustoleum recommended to me by crankyyankee. Im not sure it it's the new or old cat yellow but I think it covers well. I got it from Granger but sure you could get it at other places.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
