How does everybody keep their tractor (s) charged up?? (I always unhook the battery leads first). I mean do you let a trickle charger hooked up all winter or??? Is that safe in letting them hooked up like that??

A battery tender is the best idea. A trickle charger would work, but you would have to hook it up for a few hours, then disconnect it, then hook it up a week or so later, and charge a few hours, etc.

I use a tender... $7 at harbor freight ... essentially a 300mA charger with some electronics.... works great so far this winter... you could use a trickle charger on a timer as well... if you have that stuff around its easy... (free is always best!!)

Since my 5200 has a large room were the original battery was, I switched a good number of years ago to a small auto battery. (24 size I think) Make sure to charge it before winter, and has been good to go. Just started the tractor today to make sure I'm ready for more seat time. Had to crank a bit to bring the fuel back up, but no problem. Always try to let run a bit after blowing, to cool down, and charge some. Sits covered in home made shed next to garage outside. Plug close by if I have to use the charger is needed. sm01 Coach John

I use a 10 amp charger for 24-48 hours when I feel the battery needs a charge. As the charge comes up the needle falls toward zero and I've never thought I had an overcharging problem.

I use a little 2/6 amp charger on a timer, hooked up to two tractors with a little harness I made. Half hour a day is what I have it set for. I do the same with 3 motorcycles too, never had a problem.

My tractor has no battery. sm02 But for my motorcycle, a Deltran Battery Tender is connected to it from December 1, until riding season starts!

Me too, since I tuned up the regulators in my clunkers, I just get in and go! The snow pusher even sits outside (no shelter) but it has an excellent mini Mercedes battery in it.

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
