12 Volt Ignition Coils----------------

The most common cause of a bad coil in a briggs engine is when an unkowning person applies 12 volts to the points or the kill wire and burns the coil up (destroys insulation causing shorted turns). An open winding is also a possibility. You can check the coil with an ohmmeter without removing the blower shroud. A good coil should read 3-5 ohms, if it reads open it is bad for sure. John U
