Blowing Snow Videos - 2010Feb26

Uploaded some video of today’s snowblowing to U-tube. It’s my first attempt, so the video isn’t the greatest. The “InCab” videos were hard to take – not enough hands. Talked my wife into taking some "OutCab" video for me, they’re better. “InCab1” is pulling out of the “tractor shed” . “InCab2” is tackling a drift in front of the garages. “InCab3” is the second pass in front of the garages. “InCab4” is clearing the drive in front of my truck (that is parked on the lawn). “OutCab1&2” are clearing what’s left on the driveway. My "16GTHL" is a 7100 series tractor and the snowblower was designed to run off the center PTO. Since I'm the one on the tractor, I never saw how much the belt moves around. The adjustment is "in the green", so there's no extra "slop". I can now see why the belt guides are required to stop the belt from hopping off the pulleys. And the belt is long - like 166".

Great video, and seat time. I have a center PTO on my 5200, and the one belt does drag a bit. Once engaged is tight from what I can tell. Have to see if I can make another belt guide to help hold the "return" belt off the snow when not blowing. The factory one in on, but I don't believe both belts run through this. You don't want to change belts very often, but pain in butt, and a bit costly.

Bill, Great shots, nice tight cab with a hard windshield and wiper. Could you measure the distance across the dash area, from the verticle frame members that mount the windshield and door hinges? My cab on the 917 is adapted from a Craftsman GT that had a 20hp Kohler. A pretty heavy duty Craftsman tractor. But it has a gap between the doors and the seatpan like it is wider. I need to replace the lower front skirt below the windshield, and do not want to order the Simplicity part from Original Cab Co. if your cab is narrower. Thanks

I don't think your belt is tight enough on the blower. Its really bouncing. Could be wrong but if right it may save some belt time.

If you watch any of these tractors blowing snow you will see the bottom of the belt jumping to some extent. You will also notice that he just engaged the PTO. When the video started and he was backing up the PTO was disengaged. Later in the video it is not jumping as much. As Bill states «The adjustment is "in the green"». The belt tension is adjustable on these tractors and in the green the belt is tight enough.

Greg, The inside dimension between the two vertical supports is 32 11/16". This was measured just above the horizontal support that is above the dash. The bottom of the hard windshield rests on top of this support. I've tried to show the measuring points in the pic below that I had taken a while back for Ray. The pic doesn't show where the right vertical support is.

But he states the belt is long. I still think its needs to be tightened a little more. But, if he is happy and it works, then leave it.

Bill is stating that the belt is a long belt, it is 147" long. The belt tension/length is adjustable by sliding the V idler D in the above diagram in its adjusting slot. When the belt is adjusted as per the diagram I posted above as Bill says his is it is adjusted right.

Thanks for the measurement Bill. It is close enough that I can order the replacement from Original Cab. Did you get the cab with the hard windsheild or add it later?

Greg, I got the hard windshield at the same time I got the cab. Still have the never used vinyl windshield section.
