Whats the main difference between a kt17 and a M18

I have a chance to buy a m18 complete and may save it for a backup for my tractor. Is it a bolt in or do I have to rewire the ignition?

The Kohler M18 will require a different ignition switch since it is Magnetron ignition. An ignition switch from a Simplicity with the Briggs cast iron block horizontal engine will work.

I switched my Allis 917 from a KT17 to an M18. Bought the kit from Al Eden. It was a lot simpler than trying to do it yourself. It involves a relay and moving a couple of wires around. All is good now. Good Luck. Or you could take the ign from the Kt17 and install it on the M18

Site programming updates were made 3/23/2024. As a result some things have changed including dues payment options. We will continue maintenance and work with technicians to regain credit card payment option and clear up minor challenges. On positive it appears attaching pictures is now easier. Good day. Gene
