Proper assembly of armature above flywheel

Recommended Posts

I am ready to install my new armature on my 12hp. Briggs, I loosened the old one up and than realized it should be some distance off the flywheel. Does anyone know what the proper gap should be between flywheel and armature? Thank you Scott.

:OOne tenth of an inch seems like a very wide gap. Are you sure you don't mean 0.010 or ten thousands of an inch?:D Dave

A business card, or, If you have a box that Briggs parts came in laying around, the parts box is also a good spacing. Turn the magnets to the armature, put the card between the armature and the magnets and tighten the bolts, then spin the flywheel to remove the card. Turn the flywheel a round or two to be certain nothing is striking, if not, put it back together
