So guys, I'm very excited that I've just scored an 18hp B&S from a Murray to fit into my 6212.5. What kind of issues am I going to have making it work?

depending on which model engine you have, the charging system could be differn't, check the book and with a dealer who knows for sure. but i have run across this before when i was researching doing a twin swap.

There is also a good chance that it will be a drop in situation. My biggest concern would be that the shafts are the same diameter.

If it's an opposed twin like the 12.5 (actually those are just a 16HP with different stickers) then it'll drop right in. Now if you were going from a single cylinder to the opposed twin (like I did) then you'd have some wiring issues to deal with as well as different belt lengths. Not sure on the shaft diameter, but most vertical shaft riders use the same size shaft.
