midnightpumpkin 82 Posted May 31, 2010 Yesterday we picked up a Simplicity 4040 that has been re-powered with a Kohler K582S 23HP opposed flathead twin cylinder. The engine runs perfectly, The only flaw right now is the charging system is not working. The problem with it is that the engine really does not fit in the tractor. The PO tried to cut the hood to fit, but the hood still just doesn't fit on the tractor. I am thinking of selling the engine, the same engine, 20HP version, was used in John Deere 400's and in some Bolens machines. Any idea of what I should ask for the engine? quantico 1 Posted May 31, 2010 Any good running engine should start at 500 in that size range.... add more if it is a rare engine or recently rebuilt.... I would sell that engine and then call me to get rid of the 4040 debris .... you would not want that kind of stuff in your garage.... I would be happy to dispose of it and save you a lot of bother.... nice find !!
