Regent plow hitch

I just went to take off my plow for the first time and I am suppose to be able to drop the lift lever down and remove it without removing the whole mounting bracket but it would not clear the frame of the tractor I installed it the way the directions say I was wondering could the directions be wrong or am I doing something wrong. any help is appreciated thanx Doug Ps. It is a 99 Regent
