mitten 0 Posted June 12, 2010 Need some help here. Trying to put together a 12 hp 300421 engine that I got in a tractor. It had a broken rod. I had a used crank and rod that I have gotten on Ebay. Problem is the correct way to install the rod? Briggs manuel tells me to install rod with alignment tabs to the same side of piston that has notch. If I do this then the oil hole in rod will be on the back side of the crankshaft travel. Will it get enouigh oil if installed this way? If I install rod with oil hole in the front (same direction as crank travel) then the rod hits the cam shaft. The old rod looks like it had 2 oil holes, hard to tell from all the peices. Maybe I didn't get correct rod?
