On the 7012 I got not long ago I asked about a growling sound. Checked the BGB and I can barley see any thing in it. The manual says to fill it with mulit-purpose oil. Could someone clarify that for me and tell me what to put in there? What weight should it be also? Larry

80/90 wt gear oil. Fill it until the dipstick shows just a little on the end, when dropped into the hole (not screwed in)

The "multi-purpose" oil is by Simplicity and is hydraulic/transmission fluid. It's what they recommend for the 7000 series BGBs, though plenty owners use gear oil. The chart--seventh row up from the bottom of the 'Transmission and Gearbox' section: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=22258 Multi-purpose oil (first one at the top): http://www.sepw.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=107

See this post where the topic was recently discussed: http://simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=112099&SearchTerms=multi I'd suggest you do as Carl did - stick a rolled up paper towel in the box until it contacts some fluid (or syphon some out) to see what type of fluid it is. You want to use the same fluid. Or if switching do a complete drain, fill, run some, another drain and fresh fill. Some say you should do two fills/drain cycles to ensure all the fluid is the same.
