deck arbor - bearing corroded to housing

Recommended Posts

I have been putting off replacing the bearings in my 48" deck (1690502) for a year or two, finally got to it last night. Thanks a bunch to BLT and others, the hammer trick worked like a charm to disassemble the shaft assemblies. The lower bearing on one of the outer arbors had fallen apart some years back, and the outer race is corroded to the lower bearing housing. I currently have it soaking in gasoline to try to loosen the corrosion. I doubt it will come apart very easily, though. What would work on this - heat and somehow tapping with a punch or something?

I have about 40 restored housings if you want some. No bearings though. You can have as many as you'd like.
