Transmission gears

I got the trans off and apart on my LL today. It was actually quite simple and only took a little under 2 easy hours. The thing that kinda has me going is the pinion marked I and III in the diagram is spinning as 2 separate units. The part is listed as available for $125! Has anyone tried having a local source re-braze it? I have access to a lot of vendors for such around here but haven't inquired yet. Depending on cost/viability I would rather know it is new than have another life-limited part ticking away. Besides, the teeth were still mostly black on the sliding faces!:D
