regulator

I was out putting the 725 last few peices back on it and have to mount the regulator box and when i grabbed it my finger wer on the bottom of it and the battery is hooked up and my one finger touched one of the springs on the bottom of it and the one was pretty warm to the touch would not want to keep hand on it long and i have it so the toggle switch is no power going to the points. is this right or do I have something wiried up to it wrong but i know it runs so not got a clue now

well I have that problem figured out it was because I had a brain fart when hooking up wire turned the Batt. and the Gen to the wrong post . And I have had it running at idle speed and tonight when i gave it half to full throttle it sputters and dont matter where I set the carb at . The head gasket does have a leak . could this be my problem or any other ideas out there
