Bull_79 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Well the question I ask will my tractor the 1964 landlord be able to pull a boat around my property? I have been givin the ok to buy a boat I have been saving up for years and the time has come. I live in a development and have a place behind my shed to park the boat but it's going to be hard to manuver my truck back there it's a dodge ram 4 door 8' bed. The type of boat I am going to buy will be a 20'+or- a couple feet cuddy cabin so it will have some weight to it. Sorry for making this so long but I need your input, thanks and have a great weekend all.
Simplicity_728 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Should pull it no problem. Might need to add to the back end of the tractor and possibly bar tires or tire chains
Bull_79 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Yeah I am going to get a nice set of rear tires the ones with the big lugs. At work we cast newholland briefcase weights so I might hang a couple on the front. Yeah it's a rolling load so it shouldn't be a big deal. Thanks.
Kent 436 Posted July 11, 2010 Pulling it shouldn't be a problem -- but stopping it might be, so go slow and easy!
GregB 1,098 Posted July 11, 2010 Search the site, including the archived posts. Many guys have done it, like Kent said stopping might be a concern. Any hills? Also what kind of ball mount hitch are you going to use? Pretty sure it should be at axel height or lower if possible.

If the area is flat and the surface hard, the tractor will pull a lot more than that. The tongue weight is what might be a concern. You get a 5 or 6 thousand or more pound boat with 10-15% tongue weight, that might be a bit much.
Bull_79 0 Posted July 11, 2010 Yeah it's flat ground and the tires on Gregs Allis is what I want to get. I will make a plate to mount the ball to the rear lift somehow. I am a big guy 6'5" 280lbs so that should help with traction :-) .dOd
HubbardRA 20 Posted July 11, 2010 I have pulled my tandem trailer with a car on it. You will definitely need quite a bit of front end weight, especially with the three speed tranny in that Landlord. You will need to baby the clutch or your tractor will instantly pop the front wheels in the air. The last time I pulled a heavy trailer, I had three of the 50 lb suitcase weights on the front of my AC716H and it would still pull the wheels off the ground if I wasn't careful. I had my 61 Wards stand up on me once and the hitch popped off the ball. Needless to say, the trailer went across my backyard on its own and through my garage door. Not a good day! These tractors can pull some awesome loads, but they can raise up and even flip over backward on top of you. Be careful.
cwm1276 12 Posted July 11, 2010 Keep it slow and front weight can be key. I pulled 23ft+ campers with my dad's AC716 off the regular hitch of the tractor. The only problem was you could hardly steer! The snowblower attached helped with that but it cost you maneuverability that could be important when backing in tight spaces. We also would have someone sit on the hood when you needed to steer, growing up it was easier for Dad to have me drive so he could put his weight up front for steering, plus it help to teach me how to back trailers.
