osenga 1 Posted July 29, 2010 Ok guys Got my head gasket today for the 700 and put it on and torqued it at 15.8 and tightened head bolts the way it says to and when I started it up in noticed a faint tinking in the motor and it is coming from up from the head how it sounds with my ear by it and thats where I have pin pointed the noise to be . do you think this will be ok or should I get it fixed but with this head gasket i got the carb set up great and runs smooth and sounds strong too but ran less then 5 minutes. Any ideas to help me out here
Willy 2 Posted July 29, 2010 The head may be warped a little,I always check before installing by placing it on a flat surface (I use a piece of plate glass)with a piece of sand paper on it rub the head around on the sand paper then look for any low spots. They should be easy to spot,I use 250 grit to start with and once it's flat no low spots I clean it up with 400 wet/dry.
Storm7012 0 Posted July 29, 2010 What Willy said. Do it every time I rebuild or change head gaskets.

Brettw 1,019 Posted July 29, 2010 Exhaust leak? That may sound like your "ticking" and is near the head gasket.
