BLT 708 Posted August 2, 2010 I was asked to get a pump engine going and got tired of the rope start. I remembered a belt I had, found a pulley for my 101 and made an electric start so to speak. Pump engine had igiiton problem , but with belt doing the work, got thru the problems and engine running.
Burntime 1 Posted August 2, 2010 Great idea in a pinch, although I think that setup is a sleeve catcher:D
Ronald Hribar 70 Posted August 2, 2010 Does it turn the motor in the right direction ?
BLT 708 Posted August 2, 2010 Ron, unless noted, the standard rotation of all engines is clockwise facing the the fan. In air cooled engines the fan is part of the flywheel/magneto. Both engines have their mags facing the picture, so the rotation is correct for starting. I had just enough tension on the belt that I could start the Briggs engine and then nudging the pump outward a tad, spin the pump engine and get it running. Belt did roll off at times but was easy to attach. This was done with engine running barely above the idle notch.
