joelk 10 Posted August 7, 2010 Noticed a large axel seal leak on my 3112H. I found a good post on how to repair it, but step one is to remove the hub. Then it hit me that about 10 years ago, my dad and I made a quick fix to the hub using JB weld all over the axel and hub. It's still there. Any way to rig a fix on the seal without removing the hub? Any ideas on getting it off? Man I wish I hadn't done that.
RayS 79 Posted August 7, 2010 Should beable to file it flush with the axle tube.
HubbardRA 19 Posted August 7, 2010 If you are talking about the hub on the left side of the tractor, then the axle can be removed with that hub still in place. Take she set screws loose in the collar on the axle behind the left hub. Like Ray said, file away any JB Weld that is outside the hub. Slide the collar against the hub. Then remove the right side hub. You should now be able to slide the axle shaft to the right far enough to remove the left wheel drive gear and the keys. The axle then can be pulled out the left side. On newer tractors, the left hub is welded to the axle and has to be pulled in this way.
joelk 10 Posted August 8, 2010 Thanks Ray and Rodney. It is the left side hub that I was talking about. I'm glad to hear it can still be fixed. I'll let you know how it turns out.
