Simplicity314 0 Posted August 8, 2010 I've decided to get rid of the battery ignition on my 23D. Just wore down another brand new car battery, and have just about had it. I'm so disgusted right now I want to spit. I can't seem to find a new part number. The old one is 296834. I ran that number through Jacks and came up empty. Thanks in advance. dentwizz 6 Posted August 8, 2010 Heres a start. http://www.briggs.learnsmallenginerepair.com/BSIGNITION.htm I would reccomend going to the "Magnetron Upgrade" kit if you could find it, although the points system does have it's merits.
Chris727 1,705 Posted August 9, 2010 Can't do magnetron on a 23D as it uses the three leg coil, different flywheel, and different flwywheel key. Watch Ebay for a used one or NOS, when these were still available they were just a hare under $100. Also if you're wearing down the battery you have a charging system problem. I ram battery ignition on my B-12 and my Sov with no charging troubles, could even run lights occaisonally and not drain a lawn tractor battery.
Chris727 1,705 Posted August 9, 2010 According to the B&S dealer site, 296834 is still a good number and it lists for $102.
