dentwizz 6 Posted September 8, 2010 Must have had a chewed insulation somewhere. Rodents are evil!
ReedS 5 Posted September 8, 2010 That doesn't look like a 12 hp engine, that's an model 19 or possibly an early 23 mag in the photo, but I too waould think that the coil is shot.

dentwizz 6 Posted September 8, 2010 But I just looked up the number you gave and it came up. Am I missing something? (the 01 at the end of the type is changed to 99 as a 'catch all' in the diagrams).
midnightpumpkin 82 Posted September 8, 2010 If it were mine, I would buy a Kohler coil off ebay and re-wire it for a battery ignition. Here is an example. http://cgi.ebay.com/John-Deere-110-Kohler-K241-10hp-Engine-Coil-/190439074234?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c570da9ba Details of how to re-wire can be found by searching this site. The Briggs engines run really well with this setup, especially helps cold weather starting. John U

ka9bxg 3 Posted September 8, 2010 Sure looks like a model 19 to me also.I have found them for $45 puls shipping for the last few that I have worked on.
RayS 79 Posted September 9, 2010 I never seen a coil mounted under the flywheel either on a 300421. More than likely is a model 19.
Roy 0 Posted September 9, 2010 ka9bxg & RayS are correct. Definitely a Model 19.

dentwizz 6 Posted September 10, 2010 That makes more sense. Too bad its the FB and not the D. D used the modern coil. Here is a link to a mention of the differences. Dunno if that might shed light on it or not... http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68291
