trouble with electrical on mf-65

starter went on tractor & had it rebuilt(cost me $166). put on tractor & ran fine. next day, went to start & heard a spark. checked voltage on battery and it was 0. I took off neg wire on battery and there was 12v. I direct wire from positive of battery to starter and just sparks. no voltage coming from wire that hooks on starter when starter button is pushed. did I ruin starter and what could be wrong.

How did you check voltage on Battery? from pole to pole ? check continuity on each cable . Disconnect both ends if cables check out okay, reconnect cables check for continuity between ground of battery to starter check for 12volt on solenoid. one side should have 12 volt if it still doesn't start, jump between sides of solenoid. There will be sparks until good contact is made
