3-speed/6-speed?

Recommended Posts

What is the difference between the 3-speed and 6-speed transmissions on the 7000/700 series? Is there an additional hi/lo gear in the transmission or some other arrangement, like a belt shift? Can a 3-speed be converted to a 6 speed? I was thinking of adding the low speed kit to my 710, but thought I would ask if there are other options. thanks!

The system uses a movable idler system with a pair of drivebelts. The drive pulleys are different diameters, giving different drive ratios. Use the search engine, there have been pictures posted in the past.

I too was curious if there was more than the additional pulleys & belt& brake and toggle gate lever for moving the belt tensioner pulley. I recently picked up a 7016-3 tagged as 1690086($25 deliveredsm06!!!), with a spare homelite T-10 rear bevel and 3 speed gearbox assy+++. Yet the 7016 has the dual pulley setup as does the T-10 setup. Similar style... but not the same parts... Are these simplicity or briggs/pearless or....? need a gas tank

Here is my Homelite T-10, 6 speed linkage. It is missing the low speed driven pulley and belt, but shows the linkage. I think that you would also need the side plates from the 6 speed to convert a 3 speed to 6 speed. From left side.

From right side.
