Syncro Balance

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it is possible to check the timing on the Briggs 325431 engine without disassembling the engine? I have never owned a syncro balanced engine, so I wonder if it is as smooth as it should be. Also, I thing this engine has the counter-rotating weight version... is this correct?

I believe it is the contra rotational type. Are you meaning the ignition is skipping/rough or the possibility of the synchro being out of step?

You would need to pull the engine, then pop off the flywheel. There is a small timing check plug on the balancer cover where you insert a 1/8" dowel into the gear. If the timing is correct, the piston will be at top dead center. Tom (PK)
