mid 70's 716H, how do you tighten up the steering? Do you have to buy a new steering box or what? Also Where can I find a new replacement steering wheel for this model. Thanks, WC Edgar 620-241-4104 or steelwc@alltel.net

Are you sure the looseness is due to excessive backlash in the gears..? If so, there are 2 bolts above the pinion that adjust the mesh with the bevel gear. The original steering wheel on my 7012 had a metal collar with a cross bolt through the steering shaft. There was all kinds of play because the holes were worn oblong. I replaced the wheel with a 4 spoke deep dish from a 3000 series rear engine rider. It is a perfect fit.

I noticed that the front "tie rod" on my 716H is very worn out. NAPA has ball joint ends that I used on my Ford LT110 lawn tractor that worked very well. I'm going to fab a real tie rod for the front end and I'll post dimensions for the 716H when I'm done. One thing you can do is have a helper hold the front tie rod, jiggle the steering wheel, then hold the side tie rod and jiggle the steering again to figure out how much wear each joint has. On mine, the steering box needs to be adjusted as the wheel moves a fair amount before the steering arm in the steering box moves.[A href='http://www.wheatfarm.com']http://www.wheatfarm.com[/a]
