someone praised a particular brand of chrome paint for the steering column and grill sides. could they reiterate what brand? a search has failed to answer this question. the local box store only had valspar interior chrome on the shelf. will the chrome have to be scuff sanded and primed before spraying w/ chrome paint? thanks

A little pricey for small jobs but there is a new spray on chrome from Spectra Chrome. Plan on using this on my truck restoration. http://www.sprayonchrome.com/magicchrome.html Youtube Video of it being sprayed on...little long but worth the watch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAgT1huicqI&feature=related

Iv tried paint with not much luck, not the new stuff Big bucks. My best venture in a poor man chroming was to. Sand, prime, paint with a glossy white. Get it as clean and as flat as possible. After totally dry sand with a 900 grit wet sand, let dry. Then I use a chrome adhesive foil. With much care one can cover the parts you described and have a chrome finish that will last if applied properly. (any small blemish in the paint will show after the foil is adhered.) Next time I get in the shop and shot some pics I have of a 210 side grill frames. The set I have in the shop are covered with 2" wide foil. But the ones i covered with a hobby shop full sheet of adhesive chrome had no seam in it. The steering shaft has to have a overlap seam but poison it so it on the bottom. With a wide sheet you can cover flat and flat/bended parts great. Dan H

For $175 (or even if it was $200) I'd just get the parts rechromed correctly and move onto the next project. :D No headaches, no trial and error. Drop it off and call me when it's ready!
