TimH 0 Posted June 17, 2001 Based on the advice offered, I cleaned all the connections to the starter solenoid along with the ground cable, and the same thing happened (buzzing solenoid but no starter action). So I removed the side panels and discovered that the starter gear was engaged with the ring gear, and that it was reluctant to retract. I removed the starter, and there is enough play in the starter shaft (side to side and end to end) to make me think there is something wrong with the starter. Plus, when I turn the starter shaft if feels like it is grinding inside. I will have the local shop take a look, I assume that these starters can be rebuilt for a reasonable cost? Hopefully I can be back mowing soon - all of the rain in Iowa has made the grass grow to the point where the littlest kids disappear from site when they run out into the yard.
