42" deck identification

Recommended Posts

I don't mean to wear y'all out with questions, but I'm wanting to put some new Gator mulcher blades on my 42" deck. The problem is that the deck originally came on an older Simplicity mower, and I'm not sure of the model or year. Seller indicated the deck may be from the late 70s. Looking that the manual for my tractor 1692143, the 42" deck shows a blade #1679917, but Oregon shows no cross reference for that one. I found a new Oregon set on Ebay for a Simplicity blade# 1656144 and 2025856. I'm just a bit confused as to what I have and what will work! Is there a way I can identify my deck part#, and how universal are the blades for the various 42" Simplicity decks? Thanks for the help! Dan

I thought they were pretty much the same all through the 70's but if im wrong somebody will correct me. If I were you I'd just take the blades off and go to a dealer and get them matched up for you instead of playing ebay roulette. I always take my old parts with me to the parts house whether its car tractor or anything.
