Well, that might not be such a bad thing. I only use one forward gear anyhow. Reverse gears? interesting... Off topic, My aunt Agnus is a Nagel living near Rochester, Dadsy

I replaced the belt on my 717 Broadmoor last winter and did this.I knew the belt twisted but,I twisted it the wrong way.I bet if you take the belt off and twist it the other way it will solve your problem. mowerman1193

I got my 728 back together and took it for my first joyride and noticed that when I put it in reverse it when forward and the 3 forward speeds all go backward. I am pretty sure I have the belt on correctly. Any ideas on what I did wrong? Thanks for the help.

Didn't you just replace the original engine..? Is the replacement engine rotating in the same direction as the original..?

maybe there should be a twist in the belt. it is like that on my homesteader. I think it is somewhat like a 728

The belt was twisted the wrong way. I took the belt off completely and reinstalled and all is good now. Thanks for all the responses.
