MPH 12 Posted June 20, 2001 Seems grease in a gear box would just get a grove cut in by the gears and then they would dry anyhow, kinda like 90wt gear lube does here at 60 below, sticks to the outside of the rear end and then the rear end goes to he--, but, people do some strange things...MPH
LesH 1 Posted June 20, 2001 I bought a Simplicity 3 hp Rotocul tiller recently. I noticed that there is (an added??) grease zerk fitting on the cast worm wheel gearbox. The tine shaft seems tight and not wobbly. Is this an add on?? Most gearboxes like this that I have seen use the 80W90 gear oil. Or should I just pump in more grease?? Thanks
Guest Posted June 20, 2001 I bought a 5.5 hp rear tine tiller this year and I have no zerk, I just add 90wt to the gearbox
Les 4 Posted June 20, 2001 I have heard of people packing a leaking gear box with grease rather than tearing it apart and replacing the seals.
andrewD 0 Posted June 21, 2001 I was talking with a old guy a few months ago and he said if he has a old tiller that the seals keep going on it he just pumps it up with grease, This is probably what happend to yours
