Looking for some input on mounting and adjusting my mid pto on the Big Ten. I was choosing from parts and pieces of 3 mid ptos to make 1 servicable unit. I used pictures that I could find on the internet to help me choose what I believe are the correct pieces. When adjusting the mid pto, do I need the belly mower on it to make the final adjustments? With no attachment on it, I pull the lever down to the engaged position, but it feels as if it binds, and will not stay in the engaged position. Also, what diameter should the drive pulley be that is mounted on the bevel gear shaft? What diameter should the driven pulley be for a Big Ten? I put on a new 35" belt also. Thanks for you help. I can take some pics when the wife gets home with the digital camera. - Thanks, Mike

5" pulley on PTO side of the BGB. 6" drive pulley on trans. here is manual to adjust mid-PTO - http://bsintek.basco.com/BriggsDocumentDisplay/default.aspx?filename=heCyEN8cuI0rE3CG.5kbp796Dq

Hmmm. Both the drive pulley coming off the BGB, and the driven pulley on the PTO measure 5". Sounds like my first problem.

" 5" pulley on PTO side of the BGB. 6" drive pulley on trans" Perry, So the 6" pulley is the one attached to the shaft coming out of the bevel gear box, right? And any idea what the diameter of that shaft is? thanks, Mike

the 5" pulley go's on the PTO side of the BGB. it is a 7/8" shaft. 35" belt runs down to the 5" pulley on the mid-PTO . 44.1" belt go's on the larger of the 2 pulleys on right side of the mid-PTO and twist up to the mower deck. you may only have one pulley on the right side of mid-PTO. if there is two, the little one is for the sickle bar. make sure the belt twist the correct way up to the deck so the blades turn in the right direction.

Here are a few pics. The first two are of the pto that I decided to install on the Big Ten. Not sure if its the right one for it though. And I do see that the drive pulley is on backwards.

This next pic is the pto that I almost installed. It has the same size pulleys as the one that I did install. Might this be the correct one, or is it for a little older tractor?

This is the last mid pto that I have. Only a 4" driven pulley, and then it looks like 3 pulleys on the other side. I think this one may be for a newer tractor? Anyone know?

it looks like you have the correct one on the tractor. the 2nd one is the old style cast PTO , the 3rd one newer and is for the dual belt mower decks. i dont see the belt stop guide on your tractor ( see page 8 in manual ). follow all the proper adjustements in the manual and you should be good to go.

I did notice that I am missing the belt guide that goes on the tractor. I dug through the 2 buckets of parts that came with "Alice" and there was no belt guide. I'm sure I could make one if I had to. I bet the "old style" pto would work on it also, so I'll keep it as a spare.
