hotrodtractor Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 I am a Sovereign guy. I think I have a nice trio of machines that should last me the next 30years. My question is I know parts often go NLA. Many parts are still available but may soon become NLA. I would like to source/stock up on these parts now while some are around. Any ideas some things/parts I should look to get. I have got a spare BGB and cone clutch already. I am thinking things like brake bands, fuel tank bushing, rubber tank straps, hydro drive red rubber washer, hood straps... even buying a new old stock hood. I know I can source some things used off other machines, but some parts are reasonable new also. Ideas and suggestions?
Chris727 Posted April 19, 2011 Posted April 19, 2011 Don't worry about the fuel tank bushings. They are a generic part, even the 2010 Ferris uses one and I've seen them on Deere products too. Hood straps were used on a variety of Simplicity machines and will also be around for some time. I would think knobs, maybe an axle tube, and the grease seals that go behind the inner front wheel bearings, BGB plate gasket, and maybe a muffler would be parts worth keeping.
hotrodtractor Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I just bought a new hood in box for $120, steering wheel for $25, headlights $10 each. Now just need to get a axle and those grease seals. What about replacement parts for attachments? Like tiller tines, deck parts...
hotrodtractor Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 yes got some other stuff also form Bills. Good guys just clearing out the sovy stuff.
Burntime Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Everytime I asked about anything he seems to want to sell it for full list plus. I tried to buy a parts 7000 series for the rear end. It had no motor or deck. He actually told me I could have it for $800 bucks. I offered him $750 to which he agreed, then told him that I want to make sure, go clear it with your manager. He walked away smirking to go "clear" it...at that point I left. I don't waste my time in there anymore.
hotrodtractor Posted April 20, 2011 Author Posted April 20, 2011 I delt with Bill himself and got good prices I think... yes somethings were high. Example they wanted $400 for a used 48" deck, and $85 for a used cone clutch. I told them to offer everything soveriegn they had and we could talk. They did not have as much as I thought they would. They might even want to buy my 36" tiller for $400 :)
Chris727 Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 For attachments, I would probably stock a set of skid shoes for the blades. The tiller parts and blower parts should be around for years to come as they are still in production as complete units, just different hitches mostly.

Burntime Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 No Ray, thats the kind of prices I get from them. Belts, cone clutch, you name it, I always call another dealer and spend less. Just my experience, but its been since 1999 so its more then a single occurence to say the least...
TomSchmit Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 A few years ago, they (Bills on Capitol Drive) want $400 for a used 48 mower deck shell. I don't even bother to look at things there anymore; I order thing from Tennies Hardware in West Bend. Even with shipping, they are still less than Bills for belts and small parts. Tom
hotrodtractor Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 they do have a b-10 for $700.. not my cup of tea
Burntime Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 They offered it to me for something like 400. I think you just need to catch them on the right day. I just don't waste my time anymore unless they are the only one with the part in stock... That b10 was there last summer...or at least they had one last summer.

The young guy behind the counter mentioned Bill's Power Center. This other customer butted in and said, "You'd better have a full wallet going in there."
Burntime Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I guess that it was not a multiple isolated incident:D
hotrodtractor Posted April 21, 2011 Author Posted April 21, 2011 wow I know dealer are high priced..glad our soveriegns don't break down much. I still think a brand new hood in box for $120 was fair
dave7016 Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 Hey as long as we are on NLA parts I'm redoing my deck on my 7016, old syle 48" with 2 bolts on blades and the bushing/washers are NLA for the shafts on the arbors....what to do? Use washers that are close enough from a hardware store or???? Deck is solid just needed bearings and after having to press it apart with 10 tons of pressure all the bushings are bent up. Thanks Dave in Belgium WI. btw ***Lots of old Sovereigns up here. Just bought another running and working for $350.
RayS Posted April 21, 2011 Posted April 21, 2011 I wonder when they quit selling them. I bought washers a year ago when I rebuilt a 42" deck. Try McMaster - Carr. They have pretty much everything.
