bowhunt4life Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Ok after reading several past threads I ordered a 8" pulley with 3/4" hub form my 64 landlord since I cannot get a hold of a Hi-Lo unit. My basic understanding is that this 8" pulley will slow down my gear ratio allowing me to till my garden at a much slower rate and not beat up the tractor or tiller. As for a belt it is my understanding a 49" belt will do the trick. If I am wrong please advise. I also thought about buying a 8" pulley and welding a hub on but Tractor Supply was out which is why I purchased the ready to go model from Phoenix MFG. Should arrive later this week and I'll throw it on and post an update. If anyone has done this and would like to share their experience or expertise please do. Thanks
hotrodtractor Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 that should slow you down a bit I went other way with a 4" to make fast Tractor supply has the blue belts cheap and buy a few of various size see which fits best take others back... that pulley in my pic was like $5 tops and they had many bigger ones all I had to do was drill the 3 holes
Oz Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Interesting, those look like Harley shocks. What are they connected too? Is that a tiller on behind the tractor? Oz
hotrodtractor Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 yup harley shocks on harley tractor see full write up here http://simpletractors.com/Club2/topic.asp?whichpage=0.6&TOPIC_ID=115893#340749
timflury Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Yup, 49" belt. 990238 is the Mfg. number for the low speed kit. I have the 8" setup on my 2110. I might get the 10" pulley and belt. I might be just a tick too fast in first gear for tilling, but I don't want things too slow for pulling my bottom plow.
blind_eagle Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Manual for the Low Speed Kit is the second post in this thread. http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=115666&SearchTerms=low,speed,pulley Supposed to be getting the 8" pulley from a member here myself. I'd love the 10" too but they seem harder to come by.
bowhunt4life Posted April 25, 2011 Author Posted April 25, 2011 Thanks. I know Phoenix MFG also has the 10" Pulley with 3/4" hub for $37 I may try that one on the Big Ten if the 8" pulley works from them. Thanks, Chris
AC710 Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 quote:yup harley shocks on harley tractor So if I am viewing correctly, those chrome shocks serve no mechanical purpose whatsoever except to look really cool (and they DO) since they are mounted on two solid-bolted-together ends of the hitch?

Burntime Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Kevin, what's the gps say top speed is on that thing?
B10Dave Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 :D Chris, I put a 10in. weld together pulley on my BigTen. Works perfect for tilling and snowblowing. Would be too slow for moldboard plowing or grass cutting, lawn rolling etc. Dave.
timflury Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Dave,,, Have you tried the 10" pulley in the plow field??? See my post above.
John_RI Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 With an 8" pulley you'll see a 25% reduction in ground speed over the 6" pulley. With a 10" pulley, the reduction will be 40%.
