Just bought a brand new power steering kit (mfg 1692856) for my 75th Ann tractor from B & B Lawn Equipment (dealer SmilinSam recommended for another NLA part I am looking for). If your interested, ask for Tim at 309-944-2660. I think he has access to a few more. Corrected phone number, sorry for the error.

Does this kit use a separate cylinder like on a Sunstar or an integrated unit that fits into the dash tower? I assume it taps the Sundstrand hydro for power?

yes and yes. same everything as sunstar.... in fact it's the dash controler that is pricey. Dealer still has them for like $800

All the kits he had were sold that you guys were talking about above. He picked up two more in the dealer network. He sold one, I just bought the other one today. Price is up to a little over $800. He found one more in the network and its on its way to him now. So at this point he will have one that is not spoken for yet. Whether anymore turn up is not known. They are no longer in production so its just a matter of where they can be found on a dealers dusty shelf. Tim also has a 7117 repainted to GTH-L colors that has a power steering kit on it already. Hes asking $1000 for that tractor.

Sam are there any pics available of his 7117? Thats exactly what I want to do to my 7116...but I cant spend $600-800 for P.S. If P-Steering is $800 then the tractor is only $200...sorta sm01 ALSO: Nice to hear from you again Mike...I thought you were abducted {}

Going to take my camera back in a week or so when I pick up the power snowblower chute flap actuator I ordered to take pictures of it on the walk behind snowblowers. Going to put that on my nos 42 inch blower on the DA917( which is also getting the PS kit). I can take pictures of the color changes to his 7117 at that time and post if you want. I suppose the percentages of what the tractor cost is, related to the PS unit on it might be sound, but I would imagine you have to buy the PS to get the tractor and vice versa:D Tim is a great dealer, of the same high quality caliber as Al Eden. I could sit and talk to either of these guys for hours. They are the kind of dealers that have made and keep the Simplicity name a name associated with quality and customer satisfaction.dOd

Last summer I was able to buy two Sunstar's with power steering. After I removed the power steering components, I sold the remains for more than I paid for the tractors, = free power steering! John U

Thats great if the opportunity ever presents itself. Here power steering donor machines rarely ever show up, and the ones that do generally bring in excess of $500. Nice thing about the kits is everything is already there, installation is straight forward, and no fabrication required beyond drilling a few holes.

Greg, Mike has been abducted. His reply was 8 months ago. I got lucky and bought a complete power steering unit from a Sovereign on ebay last Janurary for $60 and another for $175 from a member. Bought a dead Sunstar from a AGCO dealer that had power steering for a $100 but need to buy the brackets. The rest is still available new.

I dont want to hijack this thread, but... Has anyone tried to use an "off the shelf" hydraulic cylinder with a steering valve from any other machine? (like a junkyard forklift, mini loader, power sweeper, or other small equipment)? It seems to me that the challange is the steering valve. the rest of the parts are easy to buy, scroung or fab cheap.??

Greg, You are correct in that the steering valve is the key part. Surplus center has cylinders with swivel ends that would work just fine. The steering valve has to be a 5 port valve to allow the hydraulic circuit to continue through the steering valve to the spool valve for the lift. The steering valve also needs to be the non-feedback type, the cylinder is held in a steady position when the valve is not being turned. John U

I have a John Deere 925 cylinder for one of my setups. You will have to fab the bracket for the tractor frame. The John Deere steering valves are the same as Simplicity. The hoses will cost $200 - $300 to have made or bought through Simplicity.

Many of the later madel Cub Cadets have power steering and can be bought pretty reasonable if they're not running.Guess I got a pretty good deal on my Simplicity Hydro 18 with power steering, tiller, deck and blade for $450.

yeah Gary you stole that thing for that price.... would be robbery if you got it without the triad.......but most pwr steerings are triad.

What happened to all those power steering kits. Were they all bought up? Do you know if they will fit on a 7117H?
Posted
The kit should fit on a 7117H if it has the hydraulic lift. Not sure if you could install just the power steering without the hydraulic lift due to the way the pressures are controlled. I think it would be OK, but the hoses would need to be different. As to the availability of the kits, as Sam stated above, they don't make the kits anymore but some turn up from time to time. I just put the mfg # into Jack's parts database and a kit is available ($989), so maybe some more kits have been found. Ask your local dealer if they can get one.

The steer valve and cylinder are the same on the Sunstar as well. So if you can find a cheap sunstar parts tractor that is an option. The brackets and other parts needed are available through Simplicity still.

thanks Ray, that $989 is a little pricey, so I will check into a used Sunstar. Do you know the part number for the steer valve and cylinder for the Sunstar and I will look them up in diagram? I think the cylinder is no. 1706655 for steer valve , do you mean steering unit , no. 1673686 ? Thanks, MR

With used steering valve(JDeere) and cylinder(Cub) from E-Bay and a bit of fab work I put Power Steering on my 7116H for $300 using the Simplicity Installation Manual from Ray....Works great!!
