bgosh Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 As it appears no one can help me find one for my B10,how would i go about checking if the one I have is any good? after taking it off the motor and looking at it I assumed it wasn't working. It has the wire going to the plug and a wire which goes to the points and a bare wire that wasn't hooked to anything and I assume that it went to ground. When I took off the shroud I was glad that this wouldn't start because in the upper right side them critters sure had that packed full of stuff and I would think it would have started on fire. The next thing I noticed is that the plug wire coating has been chewed on, but with some liquid tape that could be taken care of.I think I mentioned that it is off the engine and that is how I would like to check it.Now the next the next thing if I find out that it is OK or if I should get a different one ,how much clearance do I set it off the flywheel? Thank You Stan
steve-wis Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Hi Stan, I don't know how to check them, but if you put it back on, the thickness of a business card seems about right, I think .010 or .012" is what they call for. If you call Kitz and Pheil on Monday maybe they can check it for you? Hope this helps some. Steve
John_RI Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 Hi Stan, Do you have an engine model? I think a lot of the coils were pretty similar for the cast iron engines. John
Chris727 Posted April 30, 2011 Posted April 30, 2011 From Stan's earlier post, it would appear he has the three leg coil on the 23D. I don't know if theres a way to test them, but the 19D also used ths same 3 leg coil if that will help in your search for one. The three leg coils were gapped wider than the 2 leg coils. I think the air gap is .020
bgosh Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 Chris is correct my coil is a 3legged one.Engine is a 23D. On Mon I am going to call a local dealer back to check with his mechanic to see if he would have one in his collection of used parts,he wasn't around on Fri. when I called.Chris thank you for that info, every thing I get really helps out.I also was wondering if It is possible to do what Ken Williams did on his 725 engine on my B10,23D?I have been reading all kinds of things about these coils but still am not sure what is wrong with me not getting any spark.Stan
RayS Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 If you can`t find what your looking for give this guy a call. He had a piston a friend of mine needed a few years ago. http://www.bser.com/
