RayV Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Hey Guys..I am new here. I came across this site looking for some help with a Simplicity 7119 tractor with hydromatic trans which is owned by my father in law. He is the original owner and always kept it maintained every year with oil changes and lubrication etc. The problem started yesterday when I put the trans in neutral and jumped off to move some stuff out of the way. I got back on and shifted into forward...and nothing happened...tried reverse and nothing too. The deck also does not raise or lower. I checked the fluid and it is at the top of the tube. I moved the disengagement latch up and down a few times and now the pins are stuck down. The pins will move slightly up and down but will not pop up at all and they were in the up position when the problen first started. Any ideas where I should go from here?
HubbardRA Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 I hate to ask a stupid question, but is the belt that powers the tranny still spinning? Throw the mower in gear and see if it will spin up. BGB may have gone bad.
RayV Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 I hate to ask a stupid question myself but.... What is the BGB?
RayV Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Just did a search and saw that BGB means bevel gear box. And I just went into the garage and fired it up...nothing turning when in gear. But will anything turn when the disengagement pins are stuck down? Or is that just for the deck up and down?
RayS Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 The belt would still turn if the pins are down. Is the pulley on the BGB still turning with the engine on?
427435 Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 First, deal with the stuck pins------sooner or later you will need to do that to get it moving again. Some WD40 and maybe a light tug with a needle nose pliers is in order. Then use the latch and push them down again. Repeat until the pins pop up by themselves. With the engine running, is the pulley on the side of the hydrostat turning?? If not, it could be a bad BGB or just a loose belt. The tightener pulley bracket has been know to stick down when someone uses the foot clutch.
RayV Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 No pulleys turning at all. With the motor running, I turned the pulley on the BGB by hand and I can hear probably what is left of the teeth on the gears grinding slightly when it gets to a certain point. I do not remember hearing any grinding/breaking gears when this happened. Thanks to all for pointing this out to me. Any suggestions on where I can get another BGB for this thing? BTW..I hosed those stuck pins down with WD40 about 5 times and they are stuck down flat, I could not grab them at all with anything.
rpickle Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 Hi I understand that care should be taken with those stuck pins as they may break. I haven't had that happen, just advise from another person. Mine were stuck bad enough that I had to remove them from the tranny. Soaking them that way freed them up nicely. Good luck.
johnmonkey Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 It looks as though you will need to remove and replace the bevel gear box. I bought a complete used one from RayS (Thanks Ray!). I need to R&R it this summer. I have rebuilt one from parts and was successful (so far... fingers crossed). The was no oil in the BGB on my 1999 sovereign that I own, that is why the BGB failed. jh
PhanDad Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 See these posts about BGB issues and replacement: http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=112066 http://www.simpletractors.com/club2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=116347 The second link has a link to a complete new gear box for $250. As to the pins, although they should pop up when the latch is up, I've found that when the pump is running, the hydraulic pressure will push them up so that you can apply more WD40 and work them until they pop up by themselves. If they were really bad, then as others have said, you may have to remove the entire assembly and push them up from the bottom.
Brettw Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 I would not mess with the pins too much until you are sure they are an issue, after fixing the BGB. Usually, when under pressure, they will pop right up. They aren't going to move up or pop up well at all, without pressure from the pump. As it is now, there is no pressure from the pump, because it isn't turning. The pins may not be an issue whatsoever.
JJ MARSHALL Posted May 11, 2011 Posted May 11, 2011 check the classified here RAY has a bgb for here i don't know much about the 7119 this BGB mite not be the same as what you need. JJ
RayS Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 The BGB that I had in the classifieds isn`t the same and is sold.
josh7598 Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Here are a coule of questions since we're talking hydrostatics. Why does my 712H have better response and movement in reverse than it does in forward? Is there a rebuild kit for the pump?
