A little off topic, but I figure if anyone knows it will be someone here. I have an old Gravely model L, and I need to find a tire that will hold up to the thorn apple thorns we have here in Western NY. I think I may have had one flat in the 30 years I had this tractor in Alabama....when I moved North I decided it was time to replace the cracked, split, dry rotted original tires, and got a set of 4 off e-bay. Since then I think I've repaired or replaced(depending on where the puncture was) at LEAST 7 tubes...if not 9 or 10!. Anyone know of a good heavy duty tire in the 4.00/4.80 x 8 size range? (I've recently added Slime to all for tires, but I'm not confident it will last)

Up here between Buffalo and Rochester, at the tire shop I worked in we had several customers with that problem on their mowers. We slimed all their tires and it does hold up well. You may still get an occasional flat but slime makes a big difference. You can also buy tubes now that are "pre slimed". I would consider buying those, then add more slime to it.

Thanks for the confident vote on Slime. I Saw he pre-Slimed tubes after I had bought all the regular tubes, but will definately try them if I need another. Keeping my fingers crossed for now!

Find an industrial tire shop. they can install a rubber compound, like used in forklifts. Then you will never have a flat again as there is no air in the tire.
